Is this a rare pattern? Metlox Vernonware Capistrano - not finding any examples

Has anyone seen this pattern before? Metlox Vernonware Capistrano, appears to be 1970's or later. Replacements has the pattern name but nothing in stock. I can't even find another example via google image search, which is unusual. It's a large plate or platter measuring 13-1/4 inches in diameter. Thanks! ... Dave

Sorry, there is more than one 1960s on that page. It's in the Vernonware 1960s section.

 

I found it - thank you. I guess what I should have said is that my backstamp must be c.1970's (because of the microwave reference). It makes sense that the pattern is older, since it originated at Vernon Kilns, prior to the acquisition by Metlox. I'm still curious if it is especially rare, since I can't seem to find any comparables anyplace. ... Dave

 

I think that pattern is wonderful,can you imagine a whole set in that pattern???

 

I am dumb, I can't find the pattern piece, is it Bandero or painted desert?

 

Some things you won't find because they are just not worth anything much so no-one offers them for sale or writes about them.

 

Here is the platter properly oriented - the mountains, ocean, and beach become clearer.

 

Great - I hadn't even noticed that the pattern is a picture. Thought it was just abstract.

 

Thanks for the pic Dave, I like the color combo. Usually I am not into abstract designs but this one is nice.......I wonder if there are any pieces hidden in the shed?

 

I wish we had more pieces. The owner of the store here has had it for several years, but it was the only piece with that pattern. Replacements has the pattern listed, but has no stock at all.

 

I like it too and swore it was pictured in one of my books but no luck

I am inclined to think, based on the title of the pattern and S. Calif location of Metlox, that the "mountains" are actually one of the channel islands off the coast of calif, either Catalina or San Clemente

 

The Channel Islands just had a 3.5 quake a few hours ago followed by a 4.1

 

Funny, when I saw your first picture I thought the reddish brown parts were a profile of an Easter Island statue

 

I'm wondering if, as part of a dinnerware set, there was a series of plates with various Capistrano themes? Check out the dinner plates in Metlox Monterey on Replacements. If Capistrano follows the same design as Monterey the bowls, cups/saucers, etc. may have been much plainer in coloring. Perhaps they were even interchangable.

Good thought Don. I just looked at the Monterey page. When I first saw the Dinner Plate [DPM2], I thought it matched this piece, but there are minor differences. A very similar design. I see what you mean on the smaller pieces. Dave
