Funky hexagonal gold(tone/colored) ring with stones around the edges

Not sure what I have here - probably just costume or maybe a craft fair item but I hadn't ever seen one like this so I'd thought I'd post it. Unmarked ( that I can find ). Not sure if the stones are rhinestones - they are dark - almost black, and the facets seem to be not quiet consistently cut - the faces all vary slightly in size - maybe smoky quartz? Under a loop I can see they are glued into the settings. There are 5 on each side - so 30 total. They do somewhat sparkle in the light. Anyhow - it looks like a hex nut and seems to have quite a bit of wear on the metal - I did polish it up with a polishing cloth. Weighs 4.5 grams.

Looks like a Pandora piece to me - if so it would be marked "ALE 585" - maybe "ALE 585G" if more recent, and may be marked on the thin banding above or below the stones.

 

Could the stones be marcasite or pyrite? Marcasite and pyrite look like shiny iron.

That would be my first guess. I have a hexagon ring sitting here with Mexican sterling marks on it, if I remember right. The design's been copied, apparently, but who copied whom is a good question.
