I picked this up yesterday because I liked the glaze. It's small - 4" in diameter, 1 7/8" high. There's a small rectangle on the side that appears to have letters in it. The last letter could possibly be a P, but I'm not sure. There's also possibly a signature on the bottom.

    Any help is appreciated!

I've somehow acquired a large collection of made in USA bulb bowls mostly Brush and Zanesville with some others thrown in. These were very popular in the 1920's - 1930's for folks wanting to plant bulbs indoors. The bottom of your bowl, unfortunately, does not look any of them. There are quite a few impurities in this clay that most US pottery lacks.

Also note the top rim appears to be hand formed and a bit uneven. I'm afraid I don't recognize the glaze either. The closest I can think of is a Muncie glaze and this is definitely not one of their products. I can see why you picked it up - the glaze is very pretty - but I don't think it's by one of the major USA pottery companies.

Sometimes these bowls were made as souvenirs. If it was produced by a small local studio pottery, that square might represent an old sticker with the name of the location where it was purchased. I'm sorry but I don't see a signature on the bottom.

Wish I could be more definitive. It's an interesting piece.

Thanks, Don. Your thoughts pretty much echo mine. It does appear to be hand formed at the rim. I just can't seem to match it up with any of the usual suspects in the American arsenal. I was hoping the rectangular mark on the side might be a clue.

Speckled clay like that and the uneven rim makes me think it's a student piece.
