Guess on Age of Verdigris Brass Elephant

    mcelephant1.jpg Leather base is marked "made in Italy: 8" high. TIA

    Leather can expedite the greening

    I don't recall seeing any brass work from Italy in more recent decades other than jewelry marked 14K

    Dear Tia,

    Recommend all "age of" questions include a photo of underside of object as there will be clues in addition to any marks you may find, If the elephant lifts off the leather there may be additional marks there such as "Made in India." Is that an African or an Asian elephant? My age guess is that it dates from the 1990's.

    Elephant doesn't lift off. I believe it is an African elephant as figtree said based on the ear size. I couldn't find any other marks. Attached is the underside of the leather mcelephantm.jpg mcelephantmm.jpg

    Is there a hole at the tip of the trunk? Could this be the base of something like a card holder or pin tray?

    No hole or slot, but that would make it very cute if it did. I'm stumped on this one... i think I will list it as mcm. I don't think it is 1990s, the leather base is just an odd.
