I got a 'bowl' lot, not a box lot today and there were three 1/4 gill measures. Not in very good shape and nothing like the ones I've seen online. One was broken and soldered back together. They are about 2" tall. Any value at all? Do people buy scrap pewter?

I've never seen them without handles. These look like they went through a fire. Anybody know enough about measures to know what those numbers on the side mean? 52 and 55 on one

I really just wanted the bowl. I have the batter pitcher and platter and this will look nice alongside them.

Bev. I'm not up on Irish pewter, but these look like early 1900 Irish baluster quarter gill measures. The 1st one may be a W.G. Edmonds & Co. measure. The following page has a pic of a WG Edmonds measure saying:

"Figure xx. A twentieth century quarter-gill Irish baluster measure. To the rim a post 1922 Irish verification mark and two figure date marks covering the period 1949 to 1966. Under the base the mark of “W.G.Edmonds & Co.” and “Dublin”. Far less well struck is a “Made in England” label. The item was sold in Dublin by Edmonds but was probably made by Gaskell and Chambers in Birmingham."

Yours definitely has a faded, less well struck Made in England stamp. Need to scroll nearly 1/2 way down the page/article to right above the "Duck and Hen" section, page 11. The following is a link to "Irish Pewter" by David Hall article in a pdf (Adobe Acrobat) formatted file.

One of the other measures is Irish Pewter by the J. Fox & Co. of Dublin. Found seversl J.Fox Irish baluster measures online. Some one dated a Fox measure at c1900.

Aha! Yes, one definately says all that. Baluster measures. Interesting. I actually have one of the communion cups. I didn't know what it was.

I was very successful selling modern pewter (scratched/dented/misshapen) to a local jewellery artisan. I "took a flyer" and placed a fairly bad photo of it all in a heap with a minimal description and a total weight on Craigslist and within hours she responded (she had an alerts or feed or something set up). There were only two bits she didn't want, but I forget WHY they were rejected.............

List them under Breweriania & Collectable Barware, they are for measuring spirits or liquer in a pub.

Maybe I'll clean out the dirt and dead bugs first.
