Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hi all!! I believe it was @all_fakes that posted a link for someone recently that allowed me to (I think identify a stone) in a ring of my Mother's!!!!! We were all walking on the North End on Block Island in the 1950's....I was a kid....Mom always was watching the rolling surf for stones that she could tumble to shiny....she dabbled in making bracelets and rings........she darted into the receding low surf and came up with what is in the attached images!! She also liked big, heavy stuff so the setting is all her idea :joyful::joyful: !! I believe the stone is Amazonite....1" X 3/4" across the top; depth down approximately 3/8"; 7 diamonds that are bigger than 1/16" but less than 1/8"; Total WT of the RING: 47g. I can see no markings on it ANYWHERE on what k gold it might be.......thanks for any input and help.......!!!! And yes, the stone is just about that bright....did not use a flash, but cameras can account for color differences!!! Just an addendum.....a thought...Block Island does have a lot of shipwrecks around it.....maybe various stones might have been used for ballast.....a thought??????????

It looks like amazonite, maybe it was a piece of scrap from Tiffany's someone tossed into the sea.

I'd guess amazonite too. I like your mom's taste in rings - BIG. The metal may well be 14k; it's the standard, and you wouldn't want anything much softer with a rock that size.

    Love the story.

So your mom tumbled the stone? Can't help with the stone, but beautiful color.

With diamonds in the setting, almost certainly 14K or better.

Thanks all!!!! It's much too big, AND heavy for me to ever wear, but I love having it!!!!! Actually, I'm not sure if Mom actually tumbled this one.....I know she did smaller stones, but am wondering (and will never know) if she actually let the jeweler handle this!! I do know the setting was all her idea .....I think she wanted it to look like it was coral all around it!! I DO know it's nearly impossible to make it 'stand up' on your finger!!!!!:hilarious::hilarious::):):) And, oh yeah, I may have said earlier....she liked some of her stuff......BIG.....not my style......:(

The way to make a big ring "sit up" is to have a jeweler put a flatter spot on the back. A lot of really big rings are made that way; I have rings made both ways, and the ones with the flat spots don't spin.

I've a honking great big ring with an almost identical setting. Has a massive lump of raw amethyst in it. I bought it in the mid 80s, secondhand, from a jeweller for a mere $25 equivalent. He'd no clue what the mark 14K meant. ;)

And I hope someone told the poor soul ... AFTER you scuttled out of the shop with that ring.
