    Hello,
I’ve come across this old box which is my grandfathers, unfortunately he has severe dementia and so I can not ask him about these.

I have no clue what they are, I’m guess some sort of old glasses?

Any information on what they are, how old etc would be much appreciated

    Thank you :)

Looks like a hand held balance scale to me. Not sure what is in your hand though. Maybe scale weights?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Can you carefully take it out, spread it out, so we can see it all, better?? AND if those are weights in the 'wax paper' maybe show both sides up? @Miscstuff may be RIGHT ON!!:):):)

Oo yes you could be right!

Unfortunalty I'm not with it at the moment, when I next go to my grandparents I shall have a closer look and post a picture of it out of the box

    Thank you!

This looks to be an English coin scale or possibly an apothecary scale which usually had the glass pans. Probably mid 1800's. The type of weights will really tell much more about it. The balance has swan neck ends and those are usually earlier.

  9. Fascinating! I can't wait to see new pictures and find out about those weights!

Sorry it’s taken a while, I managed to get some more pics and looks like it is a scale! And weights! Does anyone know anything about them? 680A5567-9153-479D-A5A0-0A884365E982.jpeg 1A286DFA-C852-4003-B78F-CB56DF344C78.jpeg B0012C77-0F48-41CA-9D2A-07C79FD6572D.jpeg

So Drachm weights were used for apothecary measurements. Here is an article describing in more detail. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apothecaries'_system
This scale was likely used by a doctor making calls as opposed to a drugstore. They would have had a more permanent type of balance. Hope this helps
