dog1.jpg dog3.jpg Love this photo, was at an estate.

Trying to decide exactly what it is, though. First off, is this an image that anyone, recognizes?

Its not a print (no little dots when magnified) but not totally sure what it is. It is uneven on a larger piece of paper.

Just curious if anyone had seen this image mostly. Thanks!

Does that folded end look like it was previously in a book/let? This could be just my mind grasping at stuff, but my initial thought was promo picture for a breeder - the dog on the weathervane and the 2 live ones look like the same breed. Plus the 2 live ones appear to be of different ages - parent/child?

Yes, I wondered about a book maybe. The photo is not evenly on the page which is a bit odd, but maybe a promo picture or something.

I appreciate you all taking a look at this.

    Cool pic.

Not glossy, like silver gelatin? Why not accept it as an original photograph? There were (are?) matte finished photo papers.

The bend might just be from squeezing it into a frame too small for the paper.

I have a ton of pictures of family dogs going back to the early 1900s. People loved having studio photos of their pets. This probably is a real photo. If you are thinking of selling, make sure you mention the weathervane with the dog. It's unusual.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I have no reason to think it is a laser print... but I wondered because of the unevenness on the sheet. What's the size of the paper? Is it a standard size?

A laser print wouldn't have dots, but if you tried to photocopy it there might be lines across it.

Otherwise, if it's a photo print then I think you have something very special. It's a great image!

    Hi Fig,

Nothing is standard. Paper is 7 7/8ths by 9 7/8ths inches. Image is 7 x 6 7/8ths. Photo is uneven on the sheet as you noticed. The paper is pretty stiff.

The image seems like something that could be in a book-- its pretty well done. I know a professional photographer, but only see him once in a blue moon, could show it to him.

    Thanks!

I think the irregularities in size support it being an original photograph. Lots of people had home darkrooms; I had one myself for a while. Easy to end up with odd sized bits and pieces.

(Makes me think of William Wegman.)

The picture itself is someone proud of their new weathervane. I'm looking for details, there was not enough info to give my opinion, it looks rolled
