    Hi all,
    I'm showing off again ;)
I bought this Regency box C.1820 recently, Someone had lined it with purple velvet which was totally wrong.
I stripped it out and found the original green paper underneath but in a bad state.
Of course its impossible to get original paper from that period so I hit on an idea of how to re-line it.

I had some paper from a really old book that was no good so I cut that to fit, then I went out and found a tester pot of paint the correct colour (I did well with that )
I painted the pieces and when dry stuck them in. Hubby cut me two pieces of wood for the partitions from old backing board, the positions of the originals were easy to see.
In the lid I put in the old embroidery that you see, Not actually correct but it fits and and I love how it looks.
I have seen prints and silk pictures in Regency boxes so thats where I got the idea, I've had that embroidery a long time and it was nice to finally use it.
I have the original key too but forgot to put it in for the photo :)

A couple of coats of shoe polish in Ox Blood brought up the leather beautifully and there it is, I'm really happy with how it looks :) IMG_0802.JPG IMG_0803.JPG IMG_0808.JPG IMG_0807.JPG

Another wonderful job, and another little treasure given a new lease of life.
The embroidery looks right at home in there too. Is it Berlin woolwork?

No it's been worked in silk on silk canvas so I'm thinking it's about 1830-1850.
