Paul Revere's Thimble Sells for Over $10,000

    Making attribution without a mark is always difficult. In favor of attributing this thimble to Revere is the similar or identical thimble in the MFA. Against attributing this thimble to Revere, and I think a stronger consideration, is the engraving. The engraving is simple and shows no evidence of skilled artisanship. Revere, however, was a highly skilled engraver. thimble-american-gold-paul-revere.jpg

    I see the engraving is much finer on the thimble on your link. Maybe he was having a bad day when he engraved the L D,;)

    Could have been engraved after the fact, but really... is the shape distinct enough to be attributed to a specific maker?
