Navaho is a guess. I don't even know why that name should seen more likely to me than any other. This stuff isn't so uncommon and normally I ignore it, but this is bigger than I usually see, I liked the train at the top, and it's clearly signed. Of course, I can't find the siggy online. Anybody know anything? About 8" tall.

Navaho is correct, as it is signed "Dineh" which means Navaho.

I found a few references with Jaylee, but only the name (so far), not any photos of her work.

Good information. I thought that second word was Mineh. At least they do occasionally sell, so there is hope. Thanks.

This piece is called greenware, and this is what Taupou said about it, when commenting on a query about some pots posted on the old ebay forum.

I edited Taupou's comment, because some doesn't apply to your piece: ........not traditional Navajo pottery. .......more recent type of Southwest souvenir pottery, most of which is made from commercial greenware molds, but decorated and "signed" by Navajo or Ute individuals. Most are factory-made........

This further comment by Taupou referred to one of the pots posted, but may help you ID your piece further: It is part of the Cedar Mesa "Desert Rainbow" production line. Cedar Mesa Pottery is a factory in Blanding, Utah, which hires Native American workers to decorate and sign their souvenir pottery.

I never expected it to be "traditional" pottery. I'll look into that Cedar Mesa thingy. Thanks.

Many are listed as Jaycee. Dineh or Dine means "the people" in Navajo, or that's what I've always heard. Some are signed Jaycee Navajo. I believe it's a man.

Room to put both names in the title and qualify it in the description. Thanks.
