I am interested in a necklace with two french hallmarks. I know the eagle head is french and so is the owl but the although the eagle is fairly clear on this piece, the second is hard to understand as it does not look like the owl that I see online as a hallmark. Can someone shed some light before I pay for something that is not legitimate? Can the owl be in different form? Edit I did want to add that i like the piece and have initiated purchase and seller appears to run legitimate honest business but I am new to this world and need some insight as the seller is not available to assist for a few days il_570xN.888136050_mmme.jpg Thank you!

I wonder if the owl is the French gold hallmark for "Re-Mark second hand goods." On the following page scroll about 1/2 of the way down the right hand double column for gold. Near the bottom of the columns are pictured 2 owls that look similar to this one. It says 1 of the owls is +50% and the other -50%. One of the owls has 1 short line on a side and the other owl has 2 lines. Impossible to tell if anything on the side of your owl.

Susan, thank you. Can you or someone else help be understand what "Re-mark second hand goods" entails? Was it just a jeweler practice when re-selling goods ? Is it still a practice?

The owl is a bit different than what the link shows and that is where I am a bit confused and hoping someone has can confirm that variants exist on the owl.

I really don't understand it either. Like you, I'm not sure what your mark is. Here is a query from the 925-1000 silver forum about the second hand mark.

I also noticed that the clasp has filigri, but not the rest of the bracelet section. Is that common? I'm wondering if this is an assembled marriaged piece

Can't find a link, but the eagle's head is struck twice on your clasp, the one on the left is rotated and partial. This was fonction of the weight of the piece!

It can. Don't discard old threads;), people often look at them.

@kyratango, on the subject of old threads, and you being a French joolie (nickname for us jewellery people), a question you may be able to answer: I often see silver jewellery in Maghreb style with French marks, were they made in France by Maghreb artisans, for retail in the Maghreb, imported in France, or regarded and stamped as French provincial?
On the subject of Maghreb, could you please take a look at this thread for me, maybe it rings a bell:

Not that I have now pronounced you the designated Maghreb expert, but you are more likely to come across this in France, than I am in The Netherlands.
