Not sure if there is such a thing as real vs copy in Rosaries. I mean aren't they all copies? lol rosary.jpg rosaryback.jpg

No they aren't, since there never was a single original rosary (trademarked?). Someone did come up with the idea, just like someone came up with the idea of a four-legged chair, but that doesn't mean the others are copies.
This is a rosary, meant for prayer, so real.
Do you have more detailed photos?

Close up of the beads, front & back of the cross, the medal and the pieces in between decades. Are those also medals? From these photos the beads look like tiger eye.

This little circle has the word "INDECROCHABLE" on one side and either OF or QF on the other side. rosarycropped4.jpg

The back of the cross says "Lourdes" - an important site for Catholics. Perhaps this one was a souvenir.

    Hi,
Looks like they were a souvenir of Lourdes. Some one bought them there and took then home for themselves or a gift. I have several sets. The two valuable ones I have are carved wood with 10KT gold medals and a beautiful set of Aurora Borealis beads and sterling silver medals. I always thought that selling them was bad so I usually gave sets of them away. I think I still have a dozen or so.

The girl in the medallion is Bernadette, the girl from Lourdes who had a vision of the holy virgin (Mary).
The beads look like agate, but could be imitation, the photos are a bit dark to see properly.

I hate to say it but I have bought rosaries in the past and converted them to necklaces. Is lightning going to strike me :woot:

The beads are probably glass; they generally are, unless the metal is sterling or better. I've found a few here and there made of compressed rose petals. Around here, you're more likely to find Fatima souvenirs. As a Protestant I've never had a problem selling them, although cutting them up would bother me if the're intact. I did just turn two broken ones into necklaces; since they were resting in pieces there wasn't much point in leaving them be.

And an Our Father or ten? For penance, I refashioned a broken rosary into a pocket rosary last night. Not much else I could do with it unfortunately.

Despite my Catholic upbringing I have no problem taking them apart :cat:

I think the only one I would leave intact and sell as is would be if I was lucky enough to come across a saphiret rosary!

If I found one of those I might convert.(LOL) When only half of the chain is left, if that much. they pretty well have to be recycled somehow.

I say do a search for whole ones and see what they sell for then figure out how much you'll get breaking it up and there's your answer. I sold a lot of rosaries and medals on Ebay because I inherited so many from my various aunts, uncles and cousins. My mother hoarded everyone's. even if I was inclined to say the rosary, I wouldn't have needed ten or twelve of them.
