I am about to give these to my father for father's day. I realized I never came to a conclusion about the pot, despite all of the wonderful help. My fault. :(

The bottom is not "burnished" or shiny, but I can not feel a difference in the heights of the finish.

I also can not see tool marks - but my eyes aren't great, nor is my loupe.

I agree, from the photo the bowl looks like glazed black clay. It looks like the glazed area is raised. Burnished pieces generally have a burnished bottom as well.

I've got a couple Rose Gonzalez burnished pots and the bottoms are matte. But they are both signed.

Are they rough like this one though?

We've been having a terrible storm but it's calmed for the moment so I snapped a couple pics. The bases aren't rough, just matte. Pardon my terrible pics.

Sorry about the storm! Stay safe...it's been a crazy couple weeks for weather! Not terrible pics at all!

That's a beautiful pot @say_it_slowly! See how the burnishing ends gradually and I bet the bottom feels smooth. Burnishing takes so long, usually the entire piece will feel very finished. The other pots bottom has obvious parallel lines that would seem to indicate it was cut off a wheel or "off the hump", a high production method, and not given much attention after that.

Thanks it is a nice pot:). I do have a couple of burnished pots with burnished bottoms but these have matte so I just wanted to add that to the discussion. Wouldn't want anyone to walk away from one of these;)
