Tips for opening the box safely: open the top (address label) side of box since there are large photos lying flat on bottom of box and you don't want to cut them. There's one sharp object where I didn't think to put a guard on the blade, namely a boat-caulking chisel, has a straight blade about an inch across. Object is bright steel about 6" long. Don't rummage around in box where you can't see. The small, heavy blue or maroon box contains hundreds of small objects that you don't want to spill on a shag rug or you'll never, ever find them all. It is a flip-top box same as the small gold box, so open that one first for practice. Open blue or maroon box carefully over something that will catch any of the small things that might spill if box opened upside-down or too quickly. There are a few glass items and one in long yellow box is fragile, I can't guarantee it will arrive intact and if it doesn't, I'm sorry for not packing it better but I'm not going to be able to replace it.

    I'm a habitual schlepper.

Btw the steel top of my ADR table is a lot brighter after packing those boxes on it, remember how rusty it was? My loss is your gain, so don't be too shocked at how the box looks when u get it.

Something tells me the conveyor belts at USPS will take care of getting rid of most of the discoloration.

The Postal Peeps say all the boxes will get to their destinations on Wed. But they never did get back to me on the delivery service thing.

I think this project would be more fun if you get something in the box you don't recognize, use the forum so others (not me!) can ID it, the way we normally do here. I'll be available after appropriate time has passed, if you still can't ID it, provided I have the answer.

It just keeps getting better!!! :D:D:D

Are we all getting the same mystery item or did you put a different doohickey in each box?:happy:

There is a fair amount of commonality, but I honored the stated preferences as much as possible, and gave weight to some interests I had noted from what a particular poster had posted over time. So for example Steersman's box was the heaviest. One person who had worked in hospitals wanted NO bouffant caps, if you can imagine that! One person got about a two-inch stack of 8x10 glossy photos related to the USN.

I was referring to this post when I asked the question.:happy:

I had to wear those things for 17 years while I worked as a nurse in the operating room. :p:p:p:rolleyes::rolleyes: ;):D I will admit for a few years we had ones that were a a pretty flowered pattern & were a little larger than the cheap thin things, but you still had hat hair at the end of every shift. :arghh::arghh::arghh:

Uck. Worse, plastic hat hair. I think I can guess where the USN shots went!

I think everyone but one got a short stack of USN Combat Art Collection photos. The one got a relatively tall stack of them.
