    Dear members.
My grandfather (who was kind of a collector passed away recently).
Upon cleaning his cabinets I came accross this object (photos below).
It was stored along some old clocks but does not seem to be a pocket watch.
Do you know what it is. It is beautiful and I do not wish to sell it or throw it away (I did not throw away anything he left) but I am genuinely curious.

Your photos are visible - but can you supply any other information - such as the size? Material? Any markings?
To me it looks like a lady's (powder) compact.........missing an interior mirror......

The item is a lady's sifter style compact, circa 1920's. The mirror is probably clouded over with powder residue.
If you look it over carefully for a mfg. name, maybe someone could give more information

Here's a third vote for compact. But size info may change that.

There is a single button on the mechanical side, if that is gently pushed to the side, the interior lid may pop open. The loose powder would be filled into the cavity and when milady wanted to use the powder, she would align the small holes with the large one on the face and a small amount of powder could be accessed.
When not in use, the wheel would be moved, so that powder would not be spilled.
If my monitor is showing the item color correctly, I think it is more likely nickle silver.
Sometimes these compacts were signed on the exterior side "wall", did you check there?
Nothing wrong with your English at all...you conveyed your question perfectly.

Just checked. There is no signature. Now I have to wonder whether grandmother or great grandmother ever used it.
Thank you for all the information.
