Posting for a cousin and we're just looking for any helpful information on what this is. I can get more pictures if needed, e.g. marks or signatures or the like. Thanks in advance! Chair.jpg

Eastlake style chair. I would call it a parlor chair or side chair.
    Caned seat not wicker.
Late 1800s. Good chance it is walnut.

    Adding:
It would benefit from a rub down with Restor-A-Finish.

    BTW, welcome to the board.
Be sure to check back. People come and go at all hours.

Nice example for sure. The heck of it is people almost have to give them away now.

If I may add a cautionary tale? The seat is machine-woven cane, not hand-woven. You can tell the difference by the continuous spline around the edges of the seat holding the caned sheet in. A seat requiring hand weaving will have continuous holes drilled all around the edges. So, if you DO use it as a step-stool, it will be less expensive to have it replaced. With average daily use, and if you don't own any boys, this current seat should last about 4 years.

    Sexism!

Actually, Cluttered pretty much nailed it in her first response. Nice little early Eastlake walnut side chair. I'd call it 1880.
