Two more Amsterdam School style costume brooches joined the tribe today. One of them is mounted with saphiret cab again, just like the one I posted a while ago.
The other one has a stunning peacock blue glass cab, the colour changes to green and gold as you move it about.
Just wondering, what is the proper name of this glass?

    Thank you for looking.:)

It isn't strictly neodymium. That rare earth causes a colour change from lilac to blue. It's dichroic, in that it changes colour but it's not one of the rare earth glasses.

    Thanks @Ownedbybear .
Is it due to some kind of foil? Or metal (non-rare) content?

I wish I knew if it has another name. Beautiful brooch, it reminds me of an artist palette.

Dichroic can be caused by rare earth or other metal inclusion in the recipe, foil or coatings. Or a combination. ;) Yours looks as though it has a coating as well as something in the mix.

Yes, looking at it while moving it about, it could be both.:)

This might sound crazy but I have a marble that looks like that. Maybe info is available under marbles? Just an idea.

Marbles that have a similar blue colour and dichroism seem to be called simply cobalt blue iridescent.

    Beautiful, @Any Jewelry
I especially love the triangular shaped one. Very pleasing to the eye.
Something about the modified target shape really speaks to me.

I would suggest "blue iris" glass, there definitely is a coated A/B type finish on your stone. I look at jewelry suppliers/bead stores online when I'm trying to find a term. It can lead to a rat hole, but sometimes you find just the word!

Is "Amsterdam School" design similar to Modernist in the US?

Yes, as obb said, it seems to have a coating as well as something inside the glass. This is pre-AB, but I get what you mean.

I have polished the silver since I first posted this thread, the nasty spots are gone.:)
It is one of the Modernist styles. Modernism started in Europe in the 19th century. Ca 1910-1915 the Amsterdam School started, as a Dutch Arts & Crafts movement. Like Arts & Crafts it was a school of thought and lifestyle, as well as design. Going back to basics.
The main inspirations were the sea and Javanese (Indonesian) art. It is found in architecture, furniture and all arts and design, including jewellery. In the 1920s some Art Deco influence came into it as well, as you can see in my triangular brooch.
But most jewellery makers emphasised the handcrafted look, often with sea themes, like on this one, a turret shell inspired clip by Gaillard (detail of a bigger pic, a bit blurry):

Inspired by a sawfish (carpenterfish), unsigned:

Took another photo of the Gaillard clip. It is silver and Mediterranean red coral. The sawfish brooch in the previous post is silver and carnelian.
