I hope that this mark is right side up. I can see an AB on the left, but that's about it. Does anyone know whose mark it is? The first photo shows the left side of the mark better and the right photo shows the right side of the mark better (kind of like left Twix/right Twix). The maker placed the mark on the front (??) right under one of the swags. It's a bit over 14" diameter and has 3 attached feet. There's a thumbnail at the bottom of the entire tray if you want to see it and blow it up. TIA!

Wellll, I have been looking at these marks off and on since you posted this query without any luck in IDing them. I was hoping someone would have the answer by now. Maybe this reply will draw more attention to your query resulting in an ID. I have tried editing the pics in hope of definitely IDing the letters in the middle mark. My edited pics aren't any better than than your pics.

The punch on our left is "AB." The punch in the middle could be "CW," "GW," "EW" ... I'm just not sure of that 1st letter written in that script, but think the 2nd letter is a "W." Of course that may not be a "W." The punch on the right is a crown.

There is no official country hallmarks so it is silverplate. As to whether this side of the Atlantic or the other, I'm not sure. That crown may be an American pseudo mark or it may mean the maker is of Sheffield, England. Of course it could be Canadian also. Boy, I certainly haven't narrowed down the possibilities!! :arghh:

Even though my edited versions of your pics aren't any better, am going to include them anyways.

I'll try to get a better photo tomorrow when there's some light. I looked over on the 925 site and couldn't find anything there. This one is sooo pretty but I'm having a helluva trying to photo it. Thanks for your comments, appreciate the try.

    Hi Pam,
Here is a trick I learned from the MET in NYC. Light a candle and put close to the marks so the black soot covers it. Take some clear or frosted cellophane tape and cover the marks with a piece. Pull it off and place it on a white card or paper. The marks are easier to see and photograph.

It's really the item that matters, not the maker, unless it's someone with market cachet. Otherwise it's just men in sheds.

Greg, I'm going to try that just because I want to feel all CSI and stuff. I'm beginning to wonder if the 2nd half of the mark was double or even triple stamped just to confuse me. AF - that's funny, men in sheds! I suppose you're right and I'm getting too wrapped around the axle with the mark.

    Hi Pam,
That is NOT AF. AF would have said a couple of blokes in a shed, unless he is spending too much time around the US people.

    Hi AF,
That is how I caught on to someone named Lucy on the other place.

She's been banned for life from the ebay boards now as well

I have a new posting ID but don't look in much.

I don't stray over there much myself, but when I do, I like to play "Can You Spot The Af".
