vaseline1.jpg vaseline2.jpg vaseline2.jpg vaseline2.jpg This is my first post - I hope someone can help me identify this piece. It measures approximately 8" tall and has a rayed bottom. I believe it's a drinking glass or parfait. It has 2 of the big cut flowers on it. Any ideas on who made it?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the board.
If you go back to your post at the bottom, it says edit. Click Edit, More Options, next to the picture Full Image. Save. Your picture will appear larger so we can see it.
The edit button disappears after awhile.

Appears it is green glass and not yellow glass. Is that correct?
If it is green, then it is uranium glass and Not Vaseline glass. Vaseline glass is yellow.

Think this is Depression Era glassware.

Curious, was this found in the US?

It is green, yes. I always thought uranium glass WAS vaseline glass (at least all the antique people I know say it is). Thank you for letting me know it is different. On closer inspection this has a 3-part mold, so it's not "cut." I assumed it was part of a Depression Era glassware set, but haven't found the maker yet.

Vaseline glass was originally called Canary glass. Popular during the mid to late 1800s. Vaseline was new on the market about the same time. The original Vaseline had a yellow cast so people started calling Canary glass Vaseline glass. Vaseline glass does have uranium in it.

There is a saying, "If it's green, it's not Vaseline."
The people calling green glass vaseline are incorrect.

@Cherryhill can correct me if I have this wrong.

Oh and I forgot to say, I do not think that the flowers are cut. They look pressed to me.

@Bdigger knows Depression patterns. Maybe he has an idea.

This is not one of the well know DG Patterns, but it is probably from the same time frame. Can't say I have ever seen it before.

I noticed from the Worthpoint examples that the two vases are more flared out at the top, whereas mine isn't. That's what makes me think it's a beverage container of some sort, rather than a vase.

Wondering if it is American in origin.
@Ownedbybear any chance it is one of the English companies?

Remember glass made in a mold can be cut. The mold determines the shape with or with out the decoration. Free hand blown glass starts as a ball shape. It would be very time consuming t0 manipulate it into a footed tumbler/vase. Glass can be and is blown into a mold.
