Chinese Ink Paste Box 1970's?

    Picked up this box today, according to Gotheborg the mark is 1970's , is that right?

    I don't think so ...stylistically I'd put it earlier in the century than that.

    Thanks, I did think it was cool. The bats, face, hands and beard look hand done. I will ask on a FB Chinese group.

    Gotheborg.com has been my go to source for marks for a long time. It's a great site and easy to use though sometimes time consuming. That's a nice ink box though, well painted. Good luck with your info search. :)

    Aaron, those are the same marks I saw. Mine do not have a square around it. Don't know if that makes a difference.

    There is an additional group without the box surrounding the marks further down (still under the same heading, though.) Those would be a better comparison in my view are are dated earlier than the ones with the box. Still not period, of course.

    Very nice. It's for storing seal paste (traditionally red in colour), for use with Chinese seals.

    Bakers I did go back and find that mark. Other have said Republic Period.

    The characters are Made in the year of Qian Long (乾隆年制)
    Most likely a recently produced copy.
