Why, it stands for Art Deco Revival, of course! This was another impulse buy, finger went to the "buy" button all by itself, nothing I could do about it. It is approx 48x36x36, all steel except the removeable top is plywood wrapped around by heavy-gauge steel. End pieces were cut out probably by CNC plasma torch. End design works are in two mirrored pieces split vertically as you can tell by close inspection. I'm going to keep it near the machine tools to hold workpieces for prep or inspection. Top isn't attached now so we can get it thru doorways until it finds its permanent location. You can tell it was made by shop workers using leftover materials because the footrest rails are two different sizes of steel. I'd guess it dates from 1980's or 90's, but that's a wild guess. I'll de-rust and coat or paint the top.

Very cool. Agree with your assessment that this is an artisan piece and approximate age. Doubt it is any earlier than the 80s.

I can hear the decorators drooling from here! I'd throw some of that rust preserver stuff on it and clear-coat it ... and not let the wife see it if you want it for display in the shop!

. Yeah, great idea if I were going to put it on display, three doors down from our biz is one of the 427 stone-cutting biz's here in the D.C. Area and they keep about 50 very large slabs out front for customers to browse, so getting it wouldn't be hard. They keep about 20 young Latinos busy all day cutting and polishing marble and granite for upscale kitchens and bathrooms in the area. No such Stone in my house.

Mine either. I can't stand granite counters, and my original formica is a lot cheaper too.:) If it comes to that, I'm betting they probably have an offcut piece they'd let you have fairly cheaply.

Funny, I already have a big piece of pink granite made into an 8" thick "surface plate" I use for precise height measurements of metal things. But it has to stay where it has three support points underneath at the points marked by the maker, or it won't give precise measurements. I have trouble seeing how an 8" thick marble slab weighing 600 lbs can bend if you don't rest it on only those three points, but it will bend and the amount can be measured with the right equipment.

Gravity, it's the law. It wouldn't bend much, but it would bend.
