Could be a lithograph by Jan Balet, certainly his style, though I can't find this one online. I've got a book of his work somewhere.

thanks architrave! I tried to search under his name after seeing your comment and came across a new website dedicated for his works,
    http://www.janbalet.com/
but could not see the picture.
Could be lithograph or even watercolor/gouache if it is genuine.
I need to see it closer I guess..
Do you think it is worth acquiring? He seemed to be a fine artist in his own way though not that highly priced..

The people in the paintings by Jan Balet all seem to have eery eyes in small heads, the people in this one don't. Balet paintings often have a slightly menacing look, this painting looks much more friendly. And his titles are all in German, this one is clearly French.
We used to get a lot of these French naive paintings of various old-style shops here in The Netherlands in the 70s-80s. There was also a series on 19th century pugilists. All of those French naive paintings were charming and made with a sense of humour.

You could be right. The book (Jan Balet. Gemälde - Zeichnungen - Graphik) has a list of his lithos from 1976 to 1983, and there doesn't seem to be a title that fits. But he was living in France (and later French-speaking Switzerland), and many do include French shop signs.

Thanks but you spoiled my little triumph..:)
p.s.how is antiques in NL.?...I lived there for few years.. If you are into antique treasure hunting I guess second hand stores in the small sleeping towns would have more potential than the always busy bigger cities...

    So sorry:(.
Sadly I can't go to second hand stores anymore. I am mainly housebound due to health isues. But we have a great site here, where anyone can list whatever they want to sell, a sort of online garage sale.
We mostly collect and sell non-Western jewellery and art. That is a relatively unknown field, and many people who sell don't know what the item or value is. The same with online auctions. And as many on this forum know, if you don't list it correctly, you don't attract the right buyers. That leaves treasure hunters like me, and I don't mind wrong listings at all:D.
