Some of the Bohemian garnets were actually glass - Jablonec was famous for it.

Should have. I do know that feeling!

    Lloyd,

Obviously, your chair is a representation of the painting but you really are comparing apples to oranges here. I think you need to compare to known examples of other chairs by Picasso (which I am sure you have done). I also think this is beyond the scope of photographs and us laymen/women here. I know you are extremely frustrated in the inability to get the right people to take a serious look. I don't really know how to advise you further. Maybe give an art broker with the right connections a financial incentive to promote this for you?

I tested it when I got home.... I was worried about it being glass.... they tested a bit higher than my German garnets. :)

My finds are all over the map today. Some of these things I need like a hole in the head but they were just so darned cheap I could not pass them by. Will separate in to two posts due to length. All are from the thrift stores unless mentioned otherwise.

Victorian lamp shade. Should clean up and I probably have a mate to it somewhere. Bought for 50 cents.
    stuff1331.jpg

Papago Tohono O'odam lidded basket about 8" tall by 8" diameter. $5.00 at an antique store. The little basket appears to be pine needle. Bought for 25 cents.
    stuff1329.jpg

The small basket uses a plastic twine as a binder, which I thought a bit odd. Any idea of origin?
    stuff1330.jpg

Heavily carved box with lock but no key. About 8" x 5". Likely Mexican. Bought for $3.50.
    stuff1332.jpg

This carved wood cache pot is about 8" diameter. It has a pineapple, donkey, and foliage on it. Any idea of origin? Couldn't pass it by for a buck.
    stuff1333.jpg

This pine Adirondack style frame was only 50 cents. 7" x 22" opening.
    stuff1336.jpg
This Mata Oriz pot is only 2 1/2" tall but also only 50 cents.

    Round 2!

The thrift was throwing out this chair because it did not sell. It is likely 150 years old due to the 2" thick single board plank seat. This photo is after I put this paprika colored paint on and distressed it. It was painted with a green "antiquing kit" finish from the 70s so needed some pizazz. Even so, I will be lucky to get even $30.00 for this. More likely, I will need to mark it down to $20.00 to sell :( Guess this is better than the landfill.
    stuff1343.jpg

This brass planter box in an iron frame was $2.00. About 18" long.
    stuff1344.jpg
This iridescent bowl/vase has more fire to it than the photo suggests. I think it is probably newish and has a shallow flake at the rim but for a buck couldn't let it sit.
    stuff1335.jpg

This Pairpoint silverplate candlestick was also a buck. It is about 5" tall and fits an 1 1/2" diameter candle rather than the slender ones. It was pretty tarnished but cleaned up nicely. Too bad there wasn't a pair.
    stuff1334.jpg

I bought this hand colored 5" x 7" photo primarily for the frame but do like the image. I did examine it out but there are no identifying marks on the photo. Bought for $12.50 full retail out of another dealer's booth in our collective. Should be a money maker on ebay if I don't decide just to keep it.
    stuff1342.jpg
This encaustic wax painting is by Courtney Putnam from WA state. 15" x 16" and a great buy at $4.00.
    stuff1337.jpg
I bought this lot of metal things priced from 50 cents to $2.50. The horse head is a bottle opener. The German shepherd is a MIJ figure and the Eiffel Tower just a souvenir. The rest are all banks. The trucks are ERTL. The building and the potato are Banthrico. These are good finds and can be a bit pricey. Worth knowing about if you don't already.
    stuff1341.jpg
This Trico vacuum fan is something old car buffs seek out. Mounts to the steering column and operates on an engine vacuum tubing connection. Bought for $2.00.
    stuff1339.jpg

This GE cathode ray tube has a 12" diameter screen and is about 21" long. It seems to have some kind of US Navy connection. I don't know much else about it so will post in the tools section with more photos. A picker friend of mine gave it to me since he was not having any luck selling it. He has a second one that I may need to buy after having a look at some of these.

The CRT has little value, even if new old stock. At 12", it was probably for a radar screen.

I have a feeling that little basket with the twine is from the Philippines. The black pot thingie with the carved donkey etc could easily be from the Dominican or possibly someplace in Central America. I'd have jumped on the Adirondak frame too; it's about the right size for a yardlong but probably held a print. As for the fan...score!

My total take for today is some groceries, some art/scrapbooking paper (it's silver but only silver-colored) and a beaded watch I bought for the beads. Really exciting stuff....not.

yes i contacted a fellow name todd fendos (he made this one)and he replied
    Hi

    > probably is correct. I may be the only artist
    > creating chairs like this. I have sent a few to Canada and I
    > create more Picasso themed chairs that other. Just curious,
    > have you seen one, or do you know the person who has it? My
    > signature should be on the left side if you are sitting in
    > the chair. Todd

after i sent him pictures he told me "That one is not mine...very cool chair. Congrats, Todd"
    then he wrote back
    Hey Randy,
I did a little research on this and can't seem to find that Picasso eve painted on a chair. That doesn't mean he didn't, it's just not documented on the (reliable) internet. I would check with an art curator, possibly affiliated with a university art department or with an art museum. Best of luck. Either way, it is a pretty cool chair. Todd

chair 11.JPG DSC09991.JPG DSC09992.JPG this to me means age , at least 60 years but i'm guessing that it is 100 years old , the chair . the age shows that the paint and the chair aged together , and logically if it was meant to deceive , why has it not hit the market , ever , it's beautiful . and the chair was definatly used before it was painted DSC06857.JPG DSC06855.JPG DSC06856.JPG DSC06814.JPG I highly doubt anyone else in the world could have achieved this, especial so long ago, and if it is fake then it is the greatest fake Picasso i have ever seen . and should be treated as such, the last guy to fake one ended up in jail for forgery sooooo..... oh, and Biro believes it is really painted by him and that's what counts ,I'm just impatience waiting for his report . i have heard and read that it takes $10,000 and a year , I'm half way lol

since I have the only Picasso chair all i have to compare it to is other Picasso's in my books, and 1 postcard he he Still0027.jpg Still0028.jpg DSC09994.JPG all matches up real good to perfect to me but i might be a little bias lol

you must put in to account that the others were done on linen or some sort of cloth , mine it a solid wood chair the paints would lay a lot easier and thicker. Or at the least it must have been painted by a master forger (sounds far fetched and illogical) IMO.
