    1. Amethyst ashtray with frosted flower on base. Measures 5 7/8" wide and 1 1/8" dep.

    2. Yellow/Amber bowl, perhaps Chinese in origin? Measures 6 3/8" by 5 1/8" and is 1 1/8" deep. Has a small butterfly mark on it, perhaps the maker's seal?

The second piece looks a bit like pate de verre but it usually is not ground on top like that.

I probably should edit my above comment a bit. If you search pate de verre, you will get primarily examples of the old French type and reproductions of same. It is an opaque glass and bears little similarity to your tray. If you search using the term liuli, you will get modern Asian examples of pate de verre that more closely resemble what you have. I did the latter and found similar but not exact pieces. My search was not comprehensive and it might give you a place to look.

Thanks Brad I will do research on both types of glass. I am wondering if this may be by Heinrich Hoffman of Czechoslovakia. The butterfly mark, and some of his work is similar. Just basing this on research I have done on Google, never has any of his glass to compare this one too.

They look like ashtrays to me. Both Val St Lambert and Tom Yamamoto did flowers like the first. The amber one reminds of some thing out of Czech.

The amethyst definitely looks Bohemian to me. There's a Chinese company makign amber glass paperweights of good quality, but I've lost the name.

The amber one with the dragon I'm thinking would be a Cigar Ashtray being that it has only 1 rest and a large one at that. My GUESS would be recently made to go with the Cigar fad of a few years ago. The Butterfly doesn't look like a H. Hoffman butterfly, and his were usually found incorporated in the design.

The Purple one, if Bohemian may be Alexandrite glass. (Although the color doesn't really look right). Look at it under flourscent light just to see if it turns to a blue color. I doubt it is, but always worth a check.

I like both pieces though, and I usually turn my nose up at amber glass.

Thanks I will look at Bohemian for the ashtray. The butterfly is actually incorporated into the design. If you look a the fourth picture of the dragon piece, you will see it above the wing on the right. Not saying it is a Hoffman piece, just what I was looking at to make me think it might be.
