What is this "Large Silver Coin?"

    Its a British Oriental Trade Dollar.
    Heavily counterfeited and very common.
    If real worth silver melt value.
    Leave well alone.

    To be more accurate, it is a fake trade dollar. The tip of the trident does not extend into the greek key band, and it is also struck somewhat off center, which is a common diagnostic of Chinese base metal counterfeits.

    If it were genuine it would be worth well over the melt value, but it is unlikely to be even worth silver value, as it 99%certainly contains no silver.

    Well, at auction, it definitely is caveat emptor. This is the junky collectible auction -- better stuff will be up for the auction nearer Christmas.
