    Hi all,

I bought a huge set of this French tableware. See some attached pictures. I have so many questions that I have not been able to find on the Internet. I haven't found the odd stamp on the back. Was it discontinued in the 19th century? Was it hand painted? Much of it is not listed for sale anywhere. How do you know if it is popular? I saw a set on E-Bay last week that sold for $1,250 for 4 place settings that included dinner plates, bread and butter plates, and cups and saucers. I have so much more! Any good advise is welcome. Thanks for your interest. Star

Could you show a clearer close up of the bottom mark?

Hi @Star and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!! Love your Avatar!! They look like a couple of cuties!!:D Even though it's a worldwide site, it does slow down later at night, so the dishes and pattern people will probably be along tomorrow!!! But there ARE the 'night owls'!!! So fear not!!!

Oh, Aqui, you know me so well!

    Hi, Star, and welcome!

Your Longchamp tableware is lovely. I have always liked the look of French faience.

With your dating question, I think you might be confusing MOUSTIERS and LONGCHAMP. I am NOT an expert, but here's the way I understand it:

Moustiers is a Provençal village where faience was produced from the 17th to the early 19th centuries. (Some is still made there today, thanks to a re-birth of sorts in the 20th century.)

Longchamp (in Burgundy) is the location of a pottery company that produces a number of china patterns, many based on old faience designs. Moustiers (like yours) is the name of one of their patterns. It is mostly late 20th to early 21st century tableware. (I believe the pattern was discontinued before 2010.)

Nonetheless, what you have there is a delightfully cheerful pattern that appeals to a lot of people. Unfortunately, prices of ALL sorts of tableware - even/especially the "nice stuff" - have plummeted in recent years.

(Asking prices at places like Replacements
    https://www.replacements.com/china/lon.htm
are about as far from reality these days as they can get!)

I can't see your markings very well, but they look to be pretty standard 20th century Longchamp horses.

Thank you so much for that clarity! I contacted replacements.com and the prices they buy at are horribly low. I am hoping to get more on E-Bay. I will see if anyone is actually interested in buying these days. Of course, I love them, I didn't buy them to sell. But I just bought a house and getting my garden started would be worth their departure. Some thing I am anxious to start. Also had a lot of flooding this spring, so feel the need to do what I can. Fingers crossed.

Star, it's a shame that you need to sell that set, but I certainly do understand. You'll probably do best selling it in smaller "groups" - maybe by place setting, with serving pieces separate, individually.

Whereabouts are you located? I know that many places have had far too much rain of late.

Where I am (southern New Hampshire) the rivers are high, but so far, there hasn't been much in the way of flooding. Still, the ground is quite saturated. (Of course, gardening in the mud isn't a great idea, but it's still too early frost-wise to plant much of anything around here, anyway.)

Best of luck with selling your set!

Thanks for your suggestions. I was thinking of doing that. Selling the coffee pot with 6 mugs and the teapot with 6 tea cups and saucers. Maybe a platter with some plates? I will still keep 4 of each thing I will use and like. I will sell the things I really like for more money and keep them if they don't sell. How does that sound?

I live in at the end of a deep valley in Northern California with a population of 700. The city doesn't know what they're doing and my storm drain just doesn't move but fills up and runs down my sloping front yard under the house and into the backyard. Because of this no garden can live or has lived. I have a grand plan to make a river bed with French drains under it filled with local river rock. It will drain into a long deep pond across the end of the backyard. Then I can make berms in the front yard to absorb some water and a garden in the back.

WOW, @Star, your 'Grand Plan' sounds wonderful for your garden!!!! It sounds like a LOT of work, but I hope it all works out for you! And best of luck selling what you'd like to!!:singing::singing:

Hi Star - did you ever sell any of this Longchamp Moustiers?
Replacement prices are dependent on how many of the same item they have on hand. If they have a lot their offer is low. If not and items are in demand then offer is high. They sell for about 4x what they pay. The Moustiers mugs go for a lot of money Bev they are rare.

Could you tell me what the green hand lettered H on the back of my China means?

Hello, J coyne. Is your china identical to the sets being discussed in the earlier part of this thread or different? If the same maker and design, please post a picture of the markings (Full Image please.) If different, the best approach to get useful answers to your question is for you to start a thread of your own and post clear pictures (Full image please) of your china and any marks (including, but not limited to, the green H you mentioned.)

October 20, 2021 - Hello, I bought a fair number of pieces in the early 1980's at either Shreve Crump & Low in Boston or at the Boston Neiman Marcus store. I bought them new at the time. Since then, I have added pieces which have been used by others. Does this help? myChpielme
