    Sorry - but WHAT is it? A cane? Walking Stick? Baton? Crop?

    Yes, we will need to see a photo of the entire item with approximate measurements.

    Don't really give values here, but can try to help with identification.

    Impossible to give a value when we don't know what it is.

    It looks like an ebony & sterling silver conductor's baton.

    Or maybe an illusionist's wand for pulling bunnies out of hats...

    It might also be helpful to have the wording typed out for us to see. I can make most of it out from the photo, but some letters go around the corner. Might be a help for someone to ID this.

    It's in the gallery

    @sdmarket
    Size would be helpful.

    I have been having the worst time copying and pasting pictures lately.
    They often don't post the first time and I have to do a second post.
    Anyone else?

    A silver-mounted conductor's baton isn't likely to be worth a great deal, even if it is old, unless you have two music-history buffs who really want it.

    Gee, we still need size. I don't know if it is a walking stick, cane or conductor's baton.

    Edit: okay just noticed the pic Clutter posted says conductor-baton in the file name.

    Like Lucille said, it would be helpful if you type out the wording. I could not begin to read it in that angle without picking up my monitor and turning it sideways. My head doesn't turn easily these days. I took the liberty of editing the pic by rotating it in the right direction and cropping the pic. Still I can't make out the name. I read"

    Wonder if this was presented by the Clontarf Choral Society of Clontarf, Ireland?

    The word following Choral starts with a U. Union?

    Sorry, it is my first post so I am a little bit confused with post editing. It is ebony & sterling silver conductor's baton. Inscription says " Presented to F G Oldham sq by the Clontarf Choral Union 1876". Gotten from estate sale. Thank you very much for all responses.
