Hello Everyone - These were finger bowls I mentioned yesterday in my post about Loetz. They measure a little over 5" across the top, about 2" high, and 3 7/8" across the bottom. Any information regarding them would be much appreciated.

If you call them "Verre de Soie" by Steuben, someone will be sure to tell you what they are.

    Edit: correct typo

Thank you so much, Tom! Now I just have to figure out how to justify starting a Steuben collection...:joyful:

I haven't checked my books, but I'm not seeing this shape on the Carder Steuben Club site. Also, the verre de soie (which was also done by Hawkes) finish I've had wasn't comprised of small dots. You may want to email your photos to the Carder Steuben club and ask for verification. I've found them to be very helpful.

I took ascot's advise and forwarded my photos to the Carder Steuben club which agree with ascot's assessment. They sent me the following response:

    Thank you for your inquiry.

I can see the resemblance of your bowls to Carder Steuben Verre de Soie, but I do not think they are. Verre de Soie is an iridescent glass like yours but it has a "smooth" looking finish, not the "dotted" finish that your bowls have. Also, like you, I have not been able to find a matching shape. Other manufacturers made glass like Verre de Soie (Powell and John Walsh come to mind) and so there is often confusion about proper identification. I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful.

Thank you for the compliments on our website. We have worked diligently to make it a useful and easy to use website for information about Carder Steuben.

If you have a continuing interest in Carder Steuben glass I would be happy to add you to the distribution list of our Gazelle Gazette. The Gazette is an email based newsletter that we distribute free of charge to member and non-members alike. Just let me know if you would like to start receiving it.

Complete membership information for the club can be found on the home page of our website if you are interested in supporting the club by becoming a member.

I sent the gentleman who responded to me a thank you note and told him I'd be very happy to receive the Gazelle Gazette. Off to research!

Don, you'll enjoy the Gazette. There's useful information and the glass photos are stunning. Wish I lived closer to Corning and could attend their symposia.

I think (just a hunch) that your bowls may be English. The shape reminds me of Stumpf Monot (French, I believe), but I've not seen anything of theirs with this finish.

I don't know of any glass with that honeycomb finish, but I'll dig about a bit.
