This set seems to be fairly well made but I have not a clue as to the maker or how the bowls were used?

The bowls measure 3 3/8" across & are 1" to the side edge.
I guessed on the orientation of the mark, so hopefully I got it right. :shame:

The bowls are not part of the sake set.

Not sure where that would fit in with Sake drinking. As far as I know there weren't any other pieces that went with this set like plates or other bowls.:confused:

The bowls are not part of the sake set.

They all came together in their original display box. The box was missing the lid, but each piece had its own little slot.:confused::confused:

I didn't see that coming! The only things I found similar also had bigger plates for sushi.

Komokwa, those are too big for sake cups. You can't believe what you read in a listing.

Maybe not...but I can post the photo to show that sets consisting of two different items are made and are out there.

& yes they look like rice bowls and soups.....but I can't tell how big they are.

    Thanks khl889!!!

Janet - I did check with the auction house & they said that there were no other pieces that looked like this set that they had found so far. There is more to come in from this estate later this week. If I find any more pieces I'll post them here.

Peggy's items can be called a set because they were in a gift box designed to hold them; those other items are just two different kinds of pieces in the same pattern, like open stock dinnerware.

According to my buyer he is going to use the cups for chilled or room temperature sake & the bowls for hot or warmed sake.

I was looking for another item tonight & came across this website. When I was looking at the different style cups & noticed the Sakazuki cups & thought of this thread. Given what the buyer told me about using them for chilled Sake, I will bet that is what the "bowls" actually were.

Interesting that it's a set of six. Typically, Japanese sets are fives, as it's thought fortuitous.
