Purchased this grouping of pinbacks at auction. I think the other bidder running me up really wanted the Wisconsin non-resident fishing license. Looks like they are fairly collectable and sell for decent money on eBay. The best political pin in the group is the Willkie pin in the lower left corner. Personally I like the elephants a lot. The Landon/Knox pins are kind of disappointing in that they don't have much value even for the larger harder to come by ones on the top.

@Joe2007 that Cinci pin could be good too. Early plastic and a current baseball team with real fans can mean real money, since it would have two sets of collectors after it.

You find some fabulous stuff bear! Would the 1st piece be a tumbler or vase?

 

Here are some of the goodies I found
4 menu covers, used on the Matson Line from what I can find, 1896 silver christening cup, silver snuff container, I think for snuff, has a little spoon attached to the top, 3 mudmen, 3 death memorials, lovely beaded bag that needs work to bring it back to life, silver pandan box and a Mr Christmas Retro Radio from 2004 - it plays Christmas Carols or you can use the radio, the people dance around.

 

A lot of yesterday's haul. The scrap metal isn't shown. I don't know what the metal is on the set with the caged rocks; it's not marked and needs testing. There are four pair of sterling earrings plus those big clips. Those are probably Portuguese silver and most likely 800. My mom wanted to know why I bought that black box. "It's ugly". It's also Towle Sterling and lucite, hallmarked for 900 silver. Weird but true.

 

I seriously covet that Towle box!

cxgirl, it's the size of a largeish tot cup, if that makes sense. About three inches tall.

 

It's Chinese pottery for certain, age unknown; I'll be posting front and back on the PGP board and seeing if someone knows. The metal surround probably isn't much cop.

The box will be going on Ebay once I get some decent pictures; the lid weighs more than the base, and it has little legs with more silver on them. The kicker (ahem) is I found this more than an hour after the sale started, in the general room. Another woman was going though some boxes of silverplate, but that little box was sitting in plain sight on top of a table of assorted junque. Price? Not much.

That's the one or close to it. The 900 could be a pattern number in this case. I don't think it's technically Deco, since it post-dates WWII, but it's definitely a cigarette box. The price the website has on it includes the ash tray, but let's just say it's worth more than I shelled out by a wide margin.

 

I had a rough day...and found myself in front of a Renaissance ( used items) store, and decided to venture in and use my wits and education from this site to see if indeed i've learned anything........
Long story short....I went over the place with a fine toothed comb....and spied something I knew ...& took a flier on something else....that I'd learned here.

I have a thing for Val Saint Lambert....& saw a little cutie...a match to one I have from my folks....that I use to hold some lighters.. for $3.50 I wasn't leaving without it..

Then at $4.....I ...no....this puppy , spoke to me of spring ...and it helped to have markings.....which ...If my search is correct was made before 1915......
So...an actual antique..! I think...?

 

Yup, they closed in 1915. Apple blossom.

 

I was going to use it for a plant.....now....I think it'll hold a place of honor as my 1st antique ...' baked dirt ' find ....courtesy of my time here !!

i'm amazed that i found it.....oh..and once i did ..i put it back...walked away...came back...looked at it again....decided that with all the info on the base that it couldn't be any good...put it back....went to pick up the Val St.......and was so happy with my little glass nut dish ...that i went back and got the vase....& then......standing in line to pay....put the vase down ..thinking if my wife saw me bring it home....she's wonder about my sanity.....& then the lady behind me picks up the vase ...inspects it and puts it down.....at this point i'm about to be called to a cash....I glance back at the vase......and it says ," hey !...don't you read every day here on the finds thread that folks say for a few bucks it's worth a shot to pick up a nice item even if you're not 100% sure it's a steal "......I looked at it...it looked at me......& I smiled and picked it up again....and went to pay for it !!!!!
& that's the truth !!!!

 

All I found today was a waste of time. I had to drop something off at a doctor's office, routine stuff, and was told "oh no we can't take this; it has to go to the lab" ... which was closed for a good hour for lunch, with no way to drop stuff off. I went off to the Ill Will and found nothing interesting and went back at about 2PM. The lab was open but "I don't take these; it goes to medical" ... who were the ones who sent me to the lab. ARGGGGH.
