Im thinking of bidding on a Bulova watch. I dont have much information on it, just a shoddy picture, but Ive seen it in person and tried it on.

They said the watch will probably go high.
...Im not exactly sure what that means...
What is resale value on a Bulova watch?
I want to buy it for keeps but still dont want to pay out the nose for something really not that valuable, especially not knowing why its not running.

Its not currently running, probably needs a battery.
Are these watches known for having certain problems?
Or if I stick a battery in it should it go to ticking?

I cant tell how old it is, Ive looked on MyBulova but without any of the numbers Ive only been able to scour the pictures and havent seen it yet..
If it is a early vintage watch will modern day batteries work in it?

It looks like a mechanical watchh. Have you tried winding it up?

It appears to be a fairly common mid 20th C lady's watch. Unless it is white gold the chances of it fetching more than $20 - $30 are minimal. There is little or no collector interest in lady's watches. They are also out of fashion with the young, who either do not use watches, just their phones, or they wear the same watches as men.

Bulova made quite good watches, nothing remarkable except the Bulova Accutron, and I am wearing one of them right now.

If it is mechanical and does not workk, although it may merely need cleaning after a couple of decades in a drawer somewhere, the cost of this would usually exceed the value of the watch.

    I got it! $25.

I could have probably paid less but we have a lady who will buy and buy and buy jewelry and I didnt want her to get the chance to snatch it up before I did.

    Im happy with it.
Its prettier than any modern day watch you could get for the same price :)

    The back says

    Bulova M8 (1968)
    10k RGP Bezel
    Stainless Steel Back

Then the code at the bottom reads
    Y997943

Glad you got it! The band is quite striking. Nice that it seems to be keeping perfect time.

Some of us wouldn't mind knowing the tip for future reference...

Unfortunately, ladies' watches are VERY hard to resell. As already noted, people just don't wear them/use them/collect them anymore. They were designed principally as jewelry, and secondarily as watches. They're so small that they're not really practical these days.
