Indian Ebony Carved Nagina cigarette box 1880c

This super carved box, not so hot because of the smoking connection, but still a wonder of detailed carving, missing the hooks and eyes it should have had but carved ebony boxes from this period are getting hard to get without paying the Earth. size 20cm x 11cm x 8cm

 

Don't mind the cigarette thing, those were different times.
This carving looks so much like my antique Jepara boxes. But where is the nagina (female naga)? I suppose it is the type of carving.

Of course it is, I meant a box to advertise cigarettes, that is what I don't mind because those were different times. I would be very surprised to find a handcarved advertising box today.

Yes, I have seen the openwork boxes a lot, the other carving as well, but usually later ones.
Is this also the city where those folding screens are made?

 

I'm not really sure about about modern carving other than the quality isn't anywhere near the standard it was 100 years ago, when you get your eye in the difference is stark.
