Oil on wood, any idea who the artist is?

    Hi,
    I have this oil on wood, probably early 20th century, western europe (that's where most of the items by this seller are from).
    Do you have any clue who this is by? I know the photos are hopeless, but that's the best I could come up with right now.
    There is a letter 'y' carved in the back, (print letter, not done by hand).

    I suggest taking it ouside and doing the picture with natural light. Flash burn kills it. The back is also important.
    The usual term is oil on panel, you might get better search results using this term.

    I had to Google that. What can be seen of this figure seems far more defeated and depressing.

    That, and I believe it is older as well, as other items by that seller are all late 19th-early 20th century.

    Hi,
    I have the feeling that it is of the "Prodigal Son". Though close to "Christina's World" as mentioned by Silverthwaite.

    I can't really say. He is wearing something unidentifiable in pale green with what looks like a red toga over it.
