Featured Small gold (antique?) item on chain --what is this?

Seems like it might have some age, whatever it is, maybe early 1900's?

Broken on one end, also possible the chain wasn't original to the piece. (Edit: Just realized I neglected taking a photo of the chain, but chain looked more modern, definitely not gold or anything.)

Thinking the metal on this might be rose gold or similar. The bottom section seems to be glass, has black w/red flecks.

Some kind of stamp or press?

Hoping someone here will know what this is.

The stone is bloodstone.. a type of jasper/chalcedony.

Looks like a damaged mechanical pencil to me, with a bloodstone set at the top, perhaps rolled gold or plated, probably mid-late 19th century...

I just tried, didn't seem to move easily, but not impossible it was intended to at some point. Good suggestion, K.

Editing, just saw the responses from Holly and Cheryl.

Sounds like many are on the same page --mechanical pencil, and bloodstone.

    Thank you!

It looks like "solid" gold, the engraving is deep and you would see the base metal if it were plated or rolled gold.

the stone is considered a seal.....but to be of use...they have to be engraved first...

Cheryl gets my vote with pen or pencil. Those "seals" are often unengraved and decorative. Might be from a dance card or chatelaine. Bet it's English.

Took a look, no name or anything on this. The photo is enlarged several times bigger than the actual item and I think the etching when enlarged looks a bit rough when so magnified. No dents on the side at all -- but the entire end piece is broken, though, which of course is a big value killer.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Pen/pencil, I do believe, yes. I saw one similar a while back, was called a "librarian's pencil and seal". I wish I could find it! Maybe an unfinished, unpersonalized seal? I love it.

It is a watch key. For a pocket watch. The small end should have a square hole for winding but these are sometimes worn round or blocked or otherwise damaged.

    Mid to late 19th C.

AF, I think you are correct! I was struggling to try to figure out exactly what was missing with this, but it is the shape of a watch key. Thanks!
