Featured 2 Small antique foot stools, age?, type of wood?

The small one is about 4 5/8" high, the larger about 9" high.

The larger one is American Empire. It is hard to tell if 1850 or 1900. The smaller one, I can't remember when they came out with the metal ridges to hold the pieces of wood together.

Can't help with the wood.
I'd put the rectangle one in the mid 1800s.

 

My thoughts are the same as Greg's.
I was wondering about the fasteners in the round one as well.

 

My dad used to call these fasteners jews nails. Was trying to find history of when they might have started to be used.
Not having any luck - probably because of the term. They may be called corrugated fasteners now.

What I did find is that they were used on soft wood, as they tended to split the wood if you didn't know how to use them correctly.

I'm thinking the round stool is probably about the same age as the other.

 

Don't take me for certain but it kinda looks like some type of mahogany.

I'd call them staples. The round one, if I saw it here, 1830s to 40s. Ish.

It's such a cute little thing, I'm almost wanting to keep it.

 

Second is definitely Empire and both appear to be mahogany. The round one is just a more utilitarian design so not a lot about it that is any style.
