Stone of Israel, Solomon's Stone, eilat, etc. It's a chrysocolla variant with blue and black mixed in with the green. If I find it at the right price I tend to hoard it; the real Israeli mines are played out or close to it.

I went into the Ill Will today and bought some stuff for the first time since they re-opened. No jools though; the case is STILL empty. What I found is a Lancome perfume gift set - Tresor. If all else fails my sister used to love the stuff. Found some Batman suspenders new on card, a friend is a Batman freak, a drawing pad and a Brighton card case. Nothing worth photographing, but there are some real honest-to-goodness tag sales this weekend and I'd cross my fingers if I didn't need them to type!

Perfume gift sets do well! The estate sale I wanted to go to posted pics of the jewelry- looks like the lady was a QVC/HSN addict. Plus lovely jewelry from Claires (tags still on.) I do better at thrift shops. Problem is, timing.

 

You have to hit it right. At more than one sale lately I've seen what I wanted walking out the door with someone else. Some of that QVC/HSN jewelry is worth a few bucks. Not as much as the local charity thrift thinks, but something.

 

Estate sales are easier....be first in line. Thrift shops, around here most have one "jewelry lady," same person, who goes around and prices the jewelry and picks out what she wants off the top. I met her once. Someone brought jewelry in and I asked to buy a bracelet and she said she couldn't sell it. I asked why, and she didnt have an answer. She got her phone out and went on ebay while I waited. She did sell me the bracelet, but she was miffed. She makes a lot of mistakes. She thinks she is an expert. That's fine with me.

 

I got a (ballpark) $60 "mistake" off a local charity thrift recently. "We didn't put any of the good jewelry out" ... only to sell me a heavy unmarked sterling with gold accents necklace for $10. I'll take those mistakes any old time!

Last week I looked a nice sterling necklace, but knew I couldn't make enough on it to really make it worth my time. The maker (Parker) made nice stuff but not for on-line. "Sold" it to a lady who came in right after me, who'd just had her cataracts fixed and all of a sudden wanted some sparklies. The same necklace in a local estate case would have been $50. She got it for $20.

 

Talking of jewellery. I paid very litle for this, but I really like it. Ma had a cream leather belt back in the fifties with enamel artists palettes on it. I've no clue what happened to it,which is a shame. But this reminded me of it.

 

Those pins were popular here in the States back in the 50s. I've never seen a belt with that print.

 

Accidentally arrived an hour early for a dentist appointment today, so I swung by a nearby consignment store. Never had luck at these places, but nearly had a heart attack going by the jewelry cabinet. Snatched up these two Native American sterling and turquoise brooches for $8.50 and $7.50, the pearl necklace for $12.50, and the modernist (untested) plastic bracelet for $6.50. That got my blood going, so on the way home I dropped by my usual thrift and came out with even more treasures. The bag is Pratesi from Italy. A bit damaged and worn (see the handle), but still a steal in my mind for $15, considering they go for $800 new. Some nice boxes, one made from what looks like a real egg, another that is gorgeous Russian lacquer (albeit with a damaged hinge). In total spent $85 today on all that you see.

 

Not bad! I found... a mouse. Or rather I caught him moving around in the walls. My trap went off, no mouse but he didn't get the bait either.

The blue plastic bracelet looks very solidly made, which I always take as a sign of quality. It's my favorite of the lot.

 

The other is signed by the artist (HBC Zuni) in dot-letters. I found an identical one online, but still can't find the artist.

 

That's one of the reasons I picked it up. I thought it was stone at first glance, because of the way it was constructed and how it had a tongue clasp.

When one can find "identical" jewelry identified as Native American...it's usually not a good sign of authenticity!
