Honestly, I'd never heard of doing that, BUT I bet you got some very pretty things!!!!!

 

The wood stove we had when we lived in the boonies of WI had one.
This was in the first half of the 1950s, and it was ancient.

 

Couple of cool old liquor bottles this week. Eagle claw shaped Creme de Menthe bottle - and what I think is an absinthe hourglass shaped bottle. Liquid fills the the hourglass shape and the outer channels - pretty cool.

RE copper boilers: I've seen stoves with them, but they were museum pieces.

It isn't for absinthe. Try Holmegaard. Some also made here when they're older.

I nearly bought one of these with a nice silver rim the other day, but it had no stopper. Finding one is an absolute pig.

 

Recently purchased this 3 gallon Robinson Ransbottom jug.

Nice Edwardian probably silver cufflinks with MOP inlay. A whole 25 cents, roughly.



White metal and I think Connemara marble cabochon. Also 25 cents.



I may have paid a tad too much for this, but it's late 19th/early 20th a pretty as heck. Six dollars or so.

 

I went to a huge clean out sale. I bought several perfume bottles which they wrapped while I loaded a few other things into my car. When I arrived home and unwrapped the bottles, all but 1 were smashed. . This ebay auction is the same as the one that survived but it has a tiny chip on the edge now.

Been awhile since I posted anything. I'll divide it up in to a couple posts. This first lot are things I bought because I could not help myself and may kick myself later ..... LOL! All are thrift store finds unless mentioned otherwise.

I rarely buy silverplate but how can you pass up an aesthetic period Barbour Bros. Quad plate bowl in perfect and polished condition for a buck?
5" dia. x 3" tall. Any idea as to purpose?



Russel Wright lug handled dish for a buck.



Guardian ware missing its lid for buck. Hmmm... think there is a theme here.



Have really been trying not to buy art that I can't identify but picked up 2 this week. First is a regionalist oil on board with a co-joined L & A artist's monogram. Bought for $6.00.



This one I just can't make out the signature on. I will start a thread in art for it. Large matted and framed watercolor with an urban or industrial subject. Bought for $8.00.

 

This group is stuff that I know I can make money on. Again, all thrift store finds unless mentioned otherwise.

Best find was a pair of 14K gold bands that I didn't get photographed. One was white gold at 6.4 g. the second was a wide yellow gold band at 11.0 g. Bought for $3.09 each! I have already sold the yellow gold one for $250.00. I gave the white gold one to my picking partner since it fit her and she helps me with finds all the time.

From the same thrift that day came this gold plated cameo pin for $2.49.


Here it is pictured with a couple compacts bought from a different thrift. The MOP one is marked Stratton England. Bought for 75 cents. The other is a compact and cigarette case on opposite sides with the lipstick on end. It is unmarked. Bought for $1.50.

A dealer friend of mine gave me this Northern Lights bowl by Humppila, Finland (Tauno Wirkkala 1960). He didn't like it since he doesn't deal in anything modern.


These two 14" Manhattan depression glass platters came from the same thrift about 3 days apart. The plain one must have been there awhile since it was marked to 1/2 price from $4.00 to $2.00. The divided one was marked originally at $2.00. Both are perfect, though the second was pretty filthy. A good buy on this pattern that dates to 1928.


This little oil on canvas is by MN artist Art Headley. He is still active, though this is an older work. It is titled Superior Skyline and had an original price of $50.00. I bought it for $1.50 (1/2 off $3.00 ... LOL!).


This Blenko Fish was $2.00.

This art glass cylinder vase was $3.00. Think probably Chinese but may post on PGP for an opinion.


This ColorCraft Shat-R-Pruf pitcher and glasses set was $4.00.

 

how do you guys and gals keep finding so much gold......?

 

Right place, right time. This particular thrift doesn't have anyone who knows what they are doing right now. First time in a long while I have found gold at any thrift store but does happen occasionally.

If you want more glasses for your ColorCraft set. I have a set of 24 still in the original box. They are all yellow with the white plastic spaghetti design.

That Stratton is about fifteen dollars retail here, so a good find. The other one a bit more, as it's unusual. Cameo is, oh, 1930s. And I agree on the yellow vase.

I've just squinted at a pair of earrings bought yesterday for fifty cents from a DEALER. He had, obviously, not looked at them properly. 9ct gold and I need to test the stones.

You should list them on ebay. You might find that the original box would make them bring crazy money. Not guaranteed but have seen original boxes for everyday household stuff create bidding wars.
