Chinese or samson vase

  1. Hi, I have owned this vase for many years, at one point I took it to a reputable local auction house for help in identifying it. The appraiser there was unsure if it was Chinese or Samson, although previously someone had suggested it was Chinese. I understand that it is very difficult to differentiate between the two, and the painting alone is not a guide. So if there are any experts out there...here goes, it is 28cm high and the circumference at the widest part is approx 37 cms. As you can see, it has a lot of damage, and has been restored only to museum standard.....but I have always loved it....If it is Chinese it would date to the late 1700's but obviously as Samson 19th century......In its present state it has no real value, except to me....completely hand painted, any advice would be most welcome!!! My overall impression from your pictures is that the vase is Chinese, not Samson, but better wait for other's opinions.
