    Hi,
Another piece of jewelry I need help with - this brooch is about 2"L, no marks. Looks well made to me.
Looking for help on where or when it was made.
    Any information appreciated.
    thanks for looking

    Thank-you Lucille:)
that looks the same as mine (except for the stones)! How did you find that? Do you know what the large stone on mine is?

I thought the stone might be "dragon's breath", and just got lucky when I google searched "bug brooch dragon's breath".

As to where made, maybe Czechoslovakia or France?

Not an expert in "dragon's breath" so wait for others, too. It seems to be that a lot of mystery stones are called dragon's breath, so I'm never quite sure what is what, but that is what first came to mind.

For what it is worth, I like yours a LOT better than the one in the auction. The green rhinestone eyes really pick up the green in the stone, and it just seems better made unless it is just your photos are so much better or something. Is yours 2" long or was that an approximate size? Only asking because the one in the auction is a bit smaller. They definitely seem to be related in any case.

Love it! You sure are finding some great things lately. :)

Thanks again Lucille:) Yes, I was guessing on the size, it is 1 1/2".
Jewellry is way out of my league, but this piece seemed like a nice one.

You will have no trouble selling this. Excellent eye! Maybe you are better at jewelry than you think.

Wow, another one! You are amazing at finding these, thank-you:)
I thought from the clasp it would be older but wasn't sure.

Yours seems to be in better shape, plus I think the dragon's breath stone on yours has a nice color with that green. Very nice.

I think blind luck comes into play a lot of times:)

Blind luck maybe, but combined with a certain kind of skill. One gets better at seeing quality in items in general, and that can transfer from one area of expertise to another.

It can only be dragon's breath if there is a blue veil in the stone. If you move the pin around in the light do you catch a flash of blue in the stone? You can see it in the photos of the ebay example, also in this photo of one I have had in the past:

If you don't see the flash of blue I would call it art glass.
