Featured Glassies: Loetz? Tango? Czech? Compote

Good evening all. I have this rolled edge compote in orange with a decorated black rim. I've seen references to Loetz Tango Glass in my research also Czech/Bohemian. Hopefully I can get a correct ID on this item and if there is a name for the decoration. approximately 4 1/4" tall x 6" diameter.

 

No not Czech.

Racking brain, Lancaster? Westmoreland?
Someone will know for sure.

I do not have any luck searching this data base. Don't know what I do wrong.
Try to id the handle on the tidbit tray.

Center Handle Servers are just about the easiest thing to search on chataboutdg. Just search CHS.

Morgantown was another possibility but I'm leaning towards Tiffin.

Not sure.
Kind of hard to see the corners on the one I posted. They look sharper than the Tiffin one. However, it appears to have the raised center.

Off to see if Tiffin did this type of color.

 

I'm not sure Tiffin did this color treatment.
They may have made the blank and sold it to a decorator.

That poster is calling it Tiffin.
I have a couple of Tiffin books at the store.
Making note (hope I remember to read note) to check books.

Thanks Don. I seem to recall (a little nudge in the back of my mind ) seeing some of these compotes IDed as Tiffin a few years back.

 

Thanks for the shout out cluttered. At INH's suggestion I checked my Lancaster book and the decoration doesn't match Marguerite. If I'm reading things correctly Marguerite is a decoration as opposed to a shape. It is white petaled flowers with orange centers and green leaves. I don't think the shape shown with Marguerite quite matches Lancaster either. The transition from the stem to the base is a little sharper on the Lancaster blank. I'm looking in Zastowney's book, pg. 124-125.

Found my note in my pocket and actually remembered to check my Tiffin books.
Well darn, I wrote notes down and didn't bring them home
Not sure of the title. Leslie Pina's book Tiffin Glass 1914-1940? Did not find your pattern. Did find one candlestick with orange paint and black decoration. Also found a couple of lamps that were orange with black decor. Otherwise did not find much in orange and black.

Tiffin Modern can't remember the author, found glass colored orange called persimmon. This would have been 1940s and later glass.

Is your orange, actually orange glass or is the color applied?

Ok this book I brought home. Yeah at least I was thinking a little bit.

Great American Glass of the Roaring 20s and Depression Era Book 2 by James Measell and Berry Wiggins.
James used to post on the old ebay boards, don't know if is still there or not. Believe he is a friend of Tom's.

Anyway, your pattern is shown on page 339. No real details. Made by US Glass, (of which Tiffin was one of the factories).
Has pattern #s for a sundae, compote and a cheese and cracker. Also says these are painted.

Maybe we should be calling on @Cherryhill.

Just want to say I added the part about Tiffin being one of the US Glass factories. The book only says Made by US Glass.

It doesn't match this one. This might actually be Tango. Believe Tango would have had a polish pontil Also the glass would have been orange and not an applied color.

I don't believe the glass is actually orange. Most likely applied. The center is clear glass that you can see through.
I believe this would be a sundae as you mentioned.

Yours isn't the correct shape. The sundae pictured looks like a short champagne shape.
