Does anyone know how old this might be? What about what type of stones? It's not bright pure yellow as in the photos because of the flash. It's a duller rougher tone but does polish up to be somewhat bright.

I tested it with an electronic gold tester and it tests over 10K under 14K. Haven't done a scratch test on it yet. It is non-magnetic.

Not very old, I'd think. 1960s earliest but possibly much more recent.

I agree, not very old at all. It looks like a home craft piece, maybe 1980s.
I see green spots, is that verdigris or is it due to the flash? If it is verdigris it has quite some copper content.

Drilled carnelian bead in there? Replacement?

Maybe the maker used old beads for added character?

And it is missing one bead, also... unless that was intentional.

Drilled? Hole not buried on bottom? Weird no?

I was wondering about that, it looks like a little mirror. My mind drifted off to Pakistani and Afghan mirror rings, which are nothing like this of course.:wacky:
    Yes.;)

It strikes me that somebody was just being creative, not trying to make a ring that looks well finished. Experimenting, maybe. Maybe just learning about some things... Who knows? The last picture showing the inside also shows that the top is not symmetrical, which might make it tricky to wear.

It strikes me as in the same vein as a brass ring I have that gives the impression of age because of the crude way it is made, but suspect it is a souvenir piece from the last 80 years.

Sure, I can accept it's newer, but how can you tell it's not old? I tried googling for old uncut ancient rings and don't see that typical rounded "medieval" looking rings for sale.

Crude construction is rarely indicative of age.

Older is often indeed better crafted.

This reminds me of a college lecture on Art History I attended many moons ago. The professor was making the point that primitive is how something is made, not necessarily when it was made.
