Hello 808 raver, welcome. I have been waiting for someone with more knowledge of Anglo Indian antiques, I hope you won't mind a stalker.
No not at all, I have many Anglo Indian items, mainly boxes, ebony carved, Sadeli, hoshiarpur, solid ivory, I do have other works of art Indian ivory carved items ect I also have 2 19/18thc Khatam boxes, one is my profile picture
Oh well if you insist I will be doing photos soon, I don't know where I should be putting these "show off" posts? I can't find a boxes category
You could either put them in the Antique discussion forum or in the furniture forum (some people might not count boxes as furniture).
A bit of a problem I have as well. There is no forum for Asian antiques, which 'only' constitute most of the world's antiques. So you have to look at the material, or go to Antiques Discussion. For some reason many items end up in Tribal, even when there is no tribal connection to be found. I have thought of posting some of my Javanese and Madurese keris, but if I can't decide where, I tend to give up. They are not metalware, not tribal, and although some may think so, certainly not militaria, because of the origin and purpose of my keris. And not all of them are antique, I just got a very nice ott early - mid century one.
It's such a wide field, I'll do some new posts in the discussion forum for now until I learn to navigate the site, I have some nice bits, Asian works of art are so technically well made by real craftsmen, the weeks some of my items took to make would make them so expensive to produce today that they could never be made for a profit, mind you that also makes them impossible to fake
Looking forward raver! And sometimes much longer. Spiritual items like many keris, took months, sometimes years to make, because a master keris smith has to take celestial influences into account.
Welcome 808 raver !! Great bunch of people here with tons of knowledge to share .. looking forward to seeing some of your boxes Joy.
