How to date a gold filled hinged bangle

I'm terribly ignorant when it comes to jewelry so don't laugh too hard;) Cleaning out a drawer I found this hollow 12K gold filled hinged bangle that I vaguely remember and I'm thinking 1960's.

So a couple questions. I've seen a few advertised as Victorian but I doubt that, so from the clasp I'm guessing it can be dated. So is it 1960's-ish?

Secondly, when it's opened the hinge area looks a bit like it might be a tiny bit pressed in though I don't see how it could not be when the bracelet is open. Is it considered damage?

I was about to toss this in the trash or at least the give-away box but I've had second thoughts. Thanks as always:)

Maybe slightly earlier, but not much beyond the 50s. I'd get about 10 to 15 dollars equivalent for it. I don't think that's damage.

That sounds right to me based on what I remember about it.

I was thinking it would be under $10 so would fit in my "I don't know what to do with it" bunch of inexpensive stuff however I did find what appears to be this exact bangle that went over $40 on eBay. It looks like they relisted it for some reason and it went $30 something. I think that was an anomaly and people believing it was Victorian.

Perhaps that distinctive sliding clasp might help date it. I would have thought this was an earlier piece.

Great you found those two auctions, SIS. Sounds like the bracelet was returned the first time because of too many "dents". (I noticed the second listing used different wording regarding the dents.)

I would go ahead and list it!

The style is earlier, in that the engraving is Victorian in look. I'd list it too, it's worth a pop.

When I get my act together I might give it a go. I hate wandering out of my comfort zone though. My box of "what to do withs" is getting bigger all the time.

    Thank you!

At a minimum it's about a buck a gram as scrap.

    $1250/ 31 x .05 x .5

I've seen that marking on eyeglass frames as early as about 1910. Most of the bangles of that time were 10K or 14K and marked differently. I don't think you see 12K GF on jewelry until the fifties.

I've seen gold-filled pieces dating to the early 80s, so it was around for a while; early 50s sounds about right as a start date. The older pieces were often marked gold shell or gold top. Same beast, different name.
