    Hi,

Anybody recognize this artist or marking on the frame? I couldn't find a signature on the painting but it looks like it's been in the frame a very long time! I found some information about the frame, it's from a shop owned by George h and W Cooper in Washington DC in 1915. No date on the frame though.

It's held into the frame with nails and the piece looks very delicate and its safe in the frame. Would it be a mistake to try to remove it to l look for a signature? Collage 2017-04-29 16_24_10.jpg

Looks to be a 20s-30s print of an orientalist painting. Probably doesn't matter much whether it is signed other than for your own information.

The girl is wearing Greek traditional dress, although a bit more revealing than most.
It is clear she did this for the artist, even her long wide sleeves are pulled up very high. They wouldn't stay like that when she was dancing with her tambourine.

    Welcome to the forums.

I have taken the liberty of cropping and correcting the perspective (standing her straight up instead of looking down or up at her from the foot of the frame) of the dancer's pic. Pictures of paintings, etc. should be taken looking straight at the painting rather than having the painting or whatever laying down on a table or whatever for easier ID help.

Sorry, I haven't any help on ID or what to do with it other then to concur with what Brad said.

The new pic looks like this could be a watercolor. Could still be a print of a watercolor but I would not dismiss this out of hand as I did in my first post. Probably worth having a look out of the frame.

Edit: Just realized the first pic was enlargeable. Had I done so, I might not have jumped to conclusion so easily. Mea culpa :sorry:
