Under Federal law these can not be sold.......................

a sentiment that I personally agree with, in principle if not practical application................

Under ebay's misunderstanding of Federal law they cannot be sold. They are perfectly legal to sell. They are sold at the PX. It is unlawful to misrepresent that you earned a medal you did not earn.

Well, aside from the moral and sentimental attachments, the US government awards them, so I imagine they are allowed to restrict use of them. They are awarded to certain people for certain deeds and actions. If you could buy them on the open market, then you could claim to have accomplished those deeds, when indeed, you have not...................

Sometimes I think the law has to many unrealistic laws, sometimes just for control and power trips. I got this from my friend, it was her Dad's medal. One thing for sure, the law don't scare me one bit.

    Hi,
Times have changed. Back in the 1970s I bought 12 purple hearts at a Army Navy surplus store. I used them to make a necklace and earrings for a dear friend of mine that loved purple. It was perfectly legal to buy them then. I think it is not okay to buy them now. Or is it any medal higher than the Distinguished Cross. Any way if it was awarded it should have the persons name either on the back or around the edge. When I find these for sale at yard sales I usually buy them and send them to the deceased family member that wants them. Many times they end up up with step kids and other non close family members.

I got this from my friend, this was her Dad's but never awarded to him, his original was lost or stolen around 1975 or so she said. She gave lots of her Dad's things, she didn't want them anymore.

Ach! The Grand Birth Certificate Fiasco of 1980................

Through a series of events too complicated to relate here, my Step-Father's third wife inherited all of my mother's possessions upon his death. Apparently the original birth certificates for me and my brothers were among those things, and she eventually tossed them out in the trash. Fast forward a few years and I was applying for an FBI clearance to do some work at O'Hare international airport.............WHAM! According to some records in another state, I had been arrested for theft/larceny a number of times...................of course it was someone else using my birth certificate for an assumed identity............and it took years of dealing with two sovereign governments to straighten it all out....................

List it on eBay.uk or eBay.ca and adjust the shipping and currency, people in the US will still see it.

I do this in reverese with items that are banned in the UK but okay in the USA.

    Hi Masons,
Similar happen to me. My brother died in 1967. Some how his information was sold on the black market. Again the person was arrested several times and he even made a claim against my Dads estate as the surviving son. We thought at first my Dad had a separate life. When it was time to straighten everything out. The guy took off for parts unknown until a other person showed up with the same SS#
and ID. It was a real mess. The worst of it was Income Tax which sent me a check for overpaying the last year before he disappeared. I was soooooooooo tempted to cash that check.

My husband doesn't have a birth certificate, he was born in colonial Indonesia and some Dutch civil servant destroyed it, along with other papers, as useless colonial rubbish. When he got married the first time his brothers had to testify that he was who he claimed to be. All that time he did have a passport, drivers licence, etc.. When we got married the testimonials had vanished, another administrative error. Another civil servant managed to find the original approval for the first marriage, just a week before our wedding.
My sister-in-law was born in Uganda, another place where birth certificates disappear (Idi Amin). She also managed to get proof of who she was just before her wedding. But in fact both my brother and I are married to non-existing people;).

As a matter of fact, I recently tried to start viewing my Social Security account online. When I went to create the account they wanted me to verify my "middle" name, which began with a "V" according to them (I have a number of what Americans call middle names, and NONE of them start with the letter "V"), as well as the finance company I had recently used to apply for a car loan......................WRONG! Someone is using my SSI number.......but it matters little to me at this point, and I will straighten it out in the event it poses a future problem, but with my non-existant credit, who really cares?????????????????????
