    Hello everybody,

I received yet another object I bought online,
in real bad shape. (Asking about condition first of course,
and they told me it was in perfect condition.)

I think I'll need to request more pictures next time.

Anyways, I have this glass lustre.

I was wondering if it you can call this cranberry glass,
even though in the middle it's color is clear.

Top and foot are red/purplish. A little lighter than on the pictures.

I found out that 'MADE IN IRAN' is stamped into the plastic piece,
where you screw in the light bulb.

I'd like to know how old this piece is. I'm affraid it's 20th century.
Also at first I thought it was Persian. That might still be, but the one's
I found online... they are very richly decorated.

Too bad there are multiple chips off.

    Thank you in advance!
    R.Antonis

    Hi,
Looks like Italian glass but newer, notice the six side nut on the bottom. The older ones used 4 sided nuts. Saw a lot of them in Brooklyn in the 1980s.

Well, yeah.. The nut might me screwed on later on,
    when it was electrified.

Or was it meant to be electric?

    Hi,
I think it was electrified from the beginning. The wires holding the prisms are Italian, older ones were just straight wires bent. It is a pretty nice lamp. Is the red coloring solid or is it a flashed on red?

I didn't even know that was a possibility, but it's flashed.
I thought it was just red glass :p

    R. Antonis, I am just curious but . . . is there a small "opening" on the side of the bottom of the lamp for the electrical cord?

To me it looks like the bottom edge of the lamp is mashing down on top of the cord.;)

Anyone else think the top might have been ground down after the fact?

Staining clear glass is cheaper than using red glass. I agree post WW2 and likely Italy.

Given the fact that the enamelled flower isn't that well done, I agree, later mass market Italian. It's copying an earlier Bohemian style.

Yes there a small triangle-shaped cut out of the glass for the cord.

Could you please explain what that means?

I think the top may have been damaged and ground down to remove the damage. Two things make me think this: the coarseness of the finish along the top, and the way the painted flowers crowd the top rim.

If it has been ground down, it's the sort of thing of which the seller might not have been aware.

Looks like the repair even removed part of at least one flower

It IS possible, I'm not sure.
