Ancient Pendant or Something Else?

I recently came across this artifact at an antiques market in PA. I was told by the seller that it was an ancient Egyptian pendant. I am not sure though. Has anyone come across something similar to this? Thank you!

 

Ancient Egyptian = more than 2000 years old?
I don't think the above pendant is that old... for the moment my guess is 20th century. Could we see the back?

 

Does a magnet attract it? I'm no expert of ancient Egyptian artifacts, but don't think they used much iron. Jewellery/amulets tend to be semi-precious stones, pottery/faience & gold.

 

No, it is not magnetic. I thought perhaps it was made out of granite but I’m not sure either.

 

In the photos it looks like corroded metal. But you believe it's stone? Or really not sure?

 

Looking at it from the back, the loop/ring at the top has a metal look to it....shiny......

 

I'd have said bronze.

 

I still stick to the 20th century

Jennifer, is this something you were only considering or have you already bought it? Think our uncertainty means we do not recommend you buy. If it is already yours, we need more info to have any further ideas.

When it comes to antiquities, it is better to assume something is fake, or at least newer than represented. There are just so many forgeries in the field, even experts are cautious. The person you talked to may have told you in good faith that it was ancient Egyptian. The person who sold it to her...? If you cannot confirm age with your own knowledge and/or research, or if seller is not a specialist with a good reputation in the field, let it go. Odds are you are not passing up a treasure.

It could be bronze, but since most 'antiquities' are fake there is a possibility this is too. It is a dangerous field for a new collector.
Does the surface feel smooth, or does it feel like some of the encrustation could flake off?

I have been looking at ancient Egyptian depictions of lizards, but could only find crocodiles.
The crocs are depicted with all four feet facing forward. The hindlegs weren't turned back, the way your lizard's legs are. That is seen more in sub-Saharan Africa. Which doesn't necessarily mean it was made in sub-Saharan Africa. If it is a fake, it could have been made anywhere.
