I don't know why did I buy this. I guess because it came cheap £10. And also because it is a very colorful (religious?) painting for a 1930s artwork compared to others from the same time period. Do they call this impressionist? I tried to research this but no luck really. Does somebody maybe knows who the artist could be? I think its maybe a French?

That looks like a score to me!Not sure of the “ism” but I think it’s reductive enough to be called impressionistic. Is it watercolor? Gouache?

Thank you. Yes I also thought it came close to that art movement. It could be a watercolor or gouache, i don't really know the difference. Cant have a look at the moment because its buried now in the back of the van because my husband decided to buy furniture :bored: There are also no markings or labels to the back

    Ten pounds is a steal.
The scene looks Middle Eastern? Biblical? The yellow figure could be wearing a bournous, North African?
It is too small for me to see.

Yes I think it is biblical and shows a scene in the middle east. You can also see a yellow ring around the head of the man who is standing in the middle with the white clothing. I think they call this a halo. So i guess that is Jesus?

I would say so. No dark hair either, a remnant of late 19th century depictions, when Jesus was always fair-haired.
It is a really nice painting, beautiful colours too.

ok interesting. If its not Jesus. Who could it be. He does look more Western than the other people in the scene. And there is clearly a Halo circle over his head which the other do not have. Or am i seeing it wrong

This looks reminiscent of a book illustration, check illustrators for a Beaumont.

Agee illustrative. TY. I knew it was reminiscent of someone for me and I couldn’t pull it and just realized it’s Henry Darger who was also illustrative and of the same period.

It's actually a nimbus, rather than a halo.

I'm sorry, I don't think I explained it well. I agree that it is Jesus.;)

Structural racism. Jesus gets depicted as blond when others around him have the dark hair of the Middle East. Sermon on the Mount? Suffer the little children to come unto me? There's a woman with a tray of bread balanced on her head but doesn't look like the loaves & fishes episode.

He looks ginger to me, but it is the same thing. There are many people with ginger hair in the Middle East, btw, but that is not why he was depicted that way.
The name Beaumont? Could be from any French speaking part of the world, or parts where French people ended up. We have many French names in the Netherlands too, as does the UK.

As in Beaumont & Fletcher or William Beaumont? Or Hugh Beaumont?
