Am I paying too much?

Discussion in 'Furniture' started by Jamie Sancineto, Apr 19, 2017.

  1. Going to check out a 1951 Arvin 5170-CM tomorrow to purchase. I was not able to find any thing online about them, previous sell prices, or what they are worth. I want to make sure I am not over-paying for this antique television. In non-working or working condition.. seller is asking $100.00

Is this what you are going to look at?
    Can you make it work?
Are you going to repurpose it and resell it?
Are you buying it for your own collection?

It is worth what you are willing to pay for it and the purpose you intend to use it.
    Sorry, not much help.

Do not try to compare specific models, just compare generic 1950 period TV sets to get an idea of the market interest. It is the thing itself rather than the maker that usually guides the value.

If all the parts are there and in good cosmetic condition, seems about right for non-working condition. Might be able to get them down a little.

  5. Yes, that is basically it. I was going to keep for personal collection :)

  6. Thanks. If I am comparing the general market, it is a good deal. Most televisions in NON WORKING condition are above $100. Thanks for the input!

  8. Oh yeah, they are asking prices. Where can I find sold prices other than worthpoint?

    ebay

Advanced search, show sold items only. Or normal search, look down the left side till you see an option for completed sales and sold sales and select sold.

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

if you like it and have a use for it $100 seems very reasonable but without seeing the condition of the one you are looking at , if it's in good condition, then ya.

  13. I bought it. It turned on and had static. I'll get an estimate on fixing it. If not, I'm sure I can get my money back or even more than I paid.

can we see some pics of it, they take some time to warm up how long did you have it on ?

  15. I will post some as soon as I can get it out of my car. The guy loaded it for me. without some sort of dolly I may struggle as I am only 5'1".
It was only on for just a few minutes.

There is probably no analog signal or no signal at the definition supported. Transmissions to such old sets ceased years ago, in Britain anyway.
